What
is wild Rainforest grown coffee?
Frog
Friendly's coffee beans grow wild within the
Rainforest as opposed to a sun or shade plantation.
The
beans mature slowly in the shaded mists of five-hundred
year old trees in the rainforest. After ten-month
ripening period, they are harvested respectively
by hand by the surviving ancestors of the indigenous
Mayan people and brought down the mountain on
donkey-back. In the village the beans are then
hand cleaned and dried in the sun before being
packed for export.
This
slow growing and natural processing provides
our coffee with its distinct flavor. One that
is warm, rich and memorable.
The
decision to make Frog Friendly coffee is based
on the discovery of an incredible product and a
truly amazing group of people, One has fed the
other as long as the mountains of Oaxca have been
covered with the wild growing rustica bean.
The trade generated by these beans has created
an important income stream for the Mountain people
of Oaxaca and the small villages of the old Mayan
trading routes. These people represent some of
the very last Maya tribes of Latin America, and
are
the descendents of the Olmec, or “Cloud People”.
Their beliefs are centered around a respectful
relationship between the people and their natural
environment.
A
portion of what you pay for Frog Friendly coffee
goes to supporting the tribes that harvest it,
helping them flourish while maintaining independence,
staying culturally intact and at the same time
stabilizing one of the largest Rainforests in
the world. |
